I had no idea....

That is now my mantra for wedding planning. I had no idea. I had no idea weddings cost so much. I had no idea weddings took so much planning. I had no idea making decisions about the wedding would be so difficult. I had no idea.

In case it isn't clear, we haven't gotten very far in the planning, and I'm mostly ok with that. Quite frankly, I've been pretty swamped this semester and if it weren't for my job itself being so boring lately, I wouldn't have had much time to do any research. Fortunately, I now fill the downtime in my office with just that. I've become firmly ensconced on The Knot message boards, and while some of the women on there frighten me just a bit with their obsession over their own weddings, they are super-helpful when it comes to figuring out how the heck to go about planning this sucker. I should probably also mention that they are very nice and I am not ignoring the possibility that once we decide where and when we're getting married, I too might become a DIY-happy bride-to-be. And the palms begin to sweat.....

We are currently struggling with the decision of where to have the wedding. Somehow, the idea of a Destination Wedding popped up, and the more I look into it, the more I like the idea. Imagining what it would be like to walk down a sandy aisle surrounded by our families and close friends with the ocean as a backdrop seriously brings tears to my eyes. I love it. And, we could have a honeymoon, something we know would definitely be put on hold if we opted to have the wedding here. The downside of the Destination Wedding is that not everybody could make it. It is asking a lot for people to pay to come see us get married, even if it is a fabulous all-inclusive vacation. I still feel guilty about that. Of course we'd have a party or celebration for the full guest list when we got home, but still.....it's a perplexing decision because I feel like there are so many people and feelings to consider.

On the upside, we are getting engagement pictures taken next weekend, so at least we're not totally behind in the planning.:)
