Mission Accomplished?

I am truly scared, now. No, really, I am thoroughly and sincerely freaked out. Was this their intent? Probably not, but I have a feeling I am not alone in my fear.

It started last week when I watched, along with the rest of the nation, as Tom Cruise declared...no, not just declared, he proclaimed from the mountaintop, for all to know and envy, his love, devotion and what seemed, to me anyway, to be a slight obsession with Katie Holmes. Over, and over, and over again on every news station and every entertainment show and every entertainment website. Hallelujah. Praise the American media.

If this is a publicity stunt, it's working in a way because I (a little shamefully) admit I am paying close attention to what happens next. I just find the whole thing a little....weird. I in no means want to disparage those in love. I know the feeling and yes, it's fabulous. BUT, I do not have the urge to jump on couches, or start planning a trip to the alter after seven weeks. Sure, it could work out, but people, please, look at the statistics! I was convinced that Tom had just gone a little crazy and Katie was about to run screaming in the other direction (as most sane women would, I think), but today my worst fears were confirmed: she is just as looney as he is.

Does anyone else think they just look funny together? Sure, Nicole was taller than Tom, too, but that seemed to work, for some reason. Tom and Katie just look uncomfortable. I have to wonder if Nicole is watching all of this unfolding and shaking her head, turning to her kids and saying, "kiddies, sorry, but your daddy's gone a little wacko". She may have been heart-broken when they split, but I'm willing to bet she breathing a HUGE sigh of relief right now.
